TRIGLAV (
The highest mountain
of the Slovene Alps Kugy called a 'kingdom'. Some are convinced that
Triglav gained its name through having three heads. In Slovene, the
first syllable suggests tri, 'three', and the second
syllable glava, 'head'. But such a simplification
loses its point in view of the fact that the mountain does not have

JULIAN ALPS
The largest and the
highest alpine mountain group in Slovenia is a part of the largest
european mountain range the Alps. Its name comes from the roman city
Forum Iulii, which is today Cividale in Italy. One third of the Julian
Alps is on italian teritory, bigger part in Slovenia covers Triglav
national park.
In the past people of
this area lived from farming, forestry and mining. In the last 100-150
years
tourism has become very important; 49 mountain houses were built. There
are several skiing centres high in the mountains (Kanin, Kobla,
Zatrnik,
Vogel) and in the valleys (Kranjska Gora, Tromeja, Tarvisio, Monte
Lussari).
One of the biggest tourist attractions in the Julian Alps are also Bled
lake and Bohinj lake.
TRIGLAV NATIONAL
PARK
Its name comes from
the highest slovenian mountain, which rises in the heart of the park.
Triglav National park lies in the north-western part of Slovenia and
covers the
area of Julian Alps. The area is divided between 7 municipalities and
there
are even 25 settlements in the peripheral area of the park.
In 1908 Prof. Albin
Belar prepared the first proposal for founding the park. Unfortunately
his ''nature conservation park above the Komarča cliff'' was not
realised. Not until 1924,
when The Alpine Conservation Park in the Triglav Lakes Valley was
